Course Overview:

Welcome to the study of World Geography! This class is designed to teach students about the earth’s physical elements and its human relationships.  This course will include lecture, individual reading, homework, group work, speaking, and presentations.

Below you will find information necessary to make this semester a success. Please read it over and feel free to ask for clarification or additional information as necessary. I want to establish an atmosphere in the class where we can share ideas, questions, and experiences. Please remember that I am here to help, and if you have any questions or concerns please contact me.

Learning is an active process; you will learn much more in this course if you make the effort to actively involve yourself in the class by keeping up with assignments, participating in discussions, activities, and reviewing what was learned in class each day.  Please note that there will be a cumulative Exam that will be worth 20% of your overall grade at the end of each semester.  Please feel free to review the standards that will be covered.

Topics Covered:

  • Our Earth in the Universe, Map Skills, Europe, Russia, China,  Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Australia
  • Political and physical aspects of each region
  • The cultural/human geography of each region
  • Historical aspects of nations

Grading

Students will receive at least 2 grades per week.  These will be a mix of classwork, homework, projects, quizzes, tests, and participation. Homework and projects are to be ready to be turned in as soon as students walk in the door for class.  Anything else will result in a late grade.  My late policy is as follows:

  • 1 day late (this includes not having it completed at the time it is collected in class) 10% deducted.
  • 2 Days late 25% deducted
  • 3 Days late 50% Deducted
  • After 3 Days the assignment receives a 0

If an assignment is due on a Thursday, Students can turn in their assignments at Friday tutoring for 10% off or email the assignment.  Monday will be 50% off and Tuesday will result in a 0.

Students are responsible for retrieving work when absent.  They will have the same amount of time to complete the assignment as all other students. For example, if a student is absent for an assignment given on Tuesday due Wednesday (1 day for completion)  They will have one day to complete the assignment once they have returned (ex. Wed. to Thurs)

Students also need to be consistently on time for class.  Tardiness to class will result in lack of participation and bell work points towards their overall grade.

Cheating in any form on any assignment will result in a 0 and phone call/email home to parents.
